Tips I use when a Meowdoku board stalls

I lose hearts on the corner touch, not on the row. The cat looks legal in its region and its column, then I notice it kisses another cat on the diagonal. These are the passes I make before I commit.

The order that saves me hearts

  1. I fill the smallest regions first. A two-cell patch often has only one survivor after the neighboring cats are placed.
  2. I write down the row and column each placed cat kills. On paper I use an X. In the app I rely on whatever mark the build gives me. I have not seen Oakever document a pencil item by name, so I will not describe a button I have not verified.
  3. I check diagonal pairs on purpose. Region and line can both be legal while the eight-neighbor rule fails.
  4. I leave the largest region until the lines around it are busy. A big patch has too many candidates early.
  5. Before the tap I recount: one cat still needed in this region, this row empty, this column empty, no cat on a neighboring cell.

On level 40 the board is 8×8. The walkthrough I checked runs about 1:17. I still do the recount above instead of copying the video blind, because a single off-by-one column spends a heart. The cells are on level 40 if you want them after you try.

Hints, when a guide describes them, point at a useful square. They are not a full solution. Hearts are a separate limit of three mistakes. I wrote both up on hearts and hints.
